The Beauty of the Rain

We joke here in SW Florida, in the summertime you can always tell the time of day by when the rain comes through. Yep, it’s a daily occurrence during the summertime, usually about 2 o’clock the skies turn gray, and boom they open up with the rain.

These past few weeks though, the daily shows have lengthened into days of showers, more clouds than sun for sure. And…several of the days the storms have been pretty intense with lightning. I have to admit, there have been a few days lately when I’ve said, “Ok, this gloomy stuff is enough now”.

Yesterday was one of those days when, sure enough right after lunch here came the rain. The sky was dark, the wind picked up and it poured, and it poured, and it poured. But then the rain stopped, and slowly the clouds began to move through and the sun shined. The rain had washed everything clean and the last image of the day was a beautiful sunset.

This reminded me so much of our relationship with God. We have those times in our lives that are gloomy and yes even dark. We wonder if things will ever be bright again. These are the times we must lean into Father, even more, to allow him to strengthen us. We must allow him to help us break through the darkness and open up a clear path.

I envision how dark and gloomy things were on Good Friday when Jesus died. Then, on Easter morning I can only imagine how that sky looked.

Sometimes we must go through the gloom and darkness to get to the beauty on the other side. We were never assured that life would be easy. But, we’ve always been assured that we would not be alone. God is always with us and will lead us through that darkness to the beauty and light.

2 Corinthians 4:6
For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

  1. I will never complain about the rain again! Your message was a reminder that we cant appreciate the beauty until we’ve experienced the darker days.  Happy Sunday from OH, Kim❤️
