Precious Gifts

I can’t believe it’s happening already, but the kids are headed back to school. Meet the teacher day, orientation, and school zones to make you slow down and take notice, it is definitely that time of year!

At church, on Sunday we said a blessing for one of the youths headed back to school this week, and next Sunday we’ll do this again for yet another group starting next week. It made me stop and think about how truly blessed we are. Father has given us the most precious gift possible, the gift of life. He entrusts children to our care, to love, nurture and raise.

Children are the most innocent and giving beings. They know no fear, they trust completely, and love unconditionally, especially when they are very young. Our role in their lives is to keep them safe, teach them right from wrong, instill values, help them understand respect and build character and help them to pursue dreams. I believe we’re here to make sure they don’t make the same mistakes we made as kids, (trust me I made some doozies), and we are here to help them grow closer to Jesus. Jesus was the only Child who never made mistakes.

We’re not perfect, but my hope every day is that I continue to learn how to be better for my children and grandchildren. There are always lessons to learn, and sometimes those lessons are learned from those very children and grandchildren.

Let’s help our youth to build a relationship with God. Let’s help them to see that God is with us, and is always here to love them as we do. Let’s help them to understand what precious gifts they are to this world.

Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go,
Even when he is old he will not depart from it.
