A Lesson in Legos

Our family, like many others, has a looooong history with Legos. Of course, both of our children played with them. Like most, they started out with the big Duplo versions and then made their way to the sought-after Lego sets.

Our youngest became engrossed with these little building blocks. Actually, she became so engrossed that even as an adult, her Christmas list contains several options to continue to build her already enormous collection. Did I mention that these sets she has built over the years now line her law office? She has everything from simple little characters, to operating backhoes, and musical instruments, and topped it all off with the famed Titanic this year.

Several years ago I found in my Christmas stocking a Lego Chef figurine. This little character has been on display in my kitchen ever since. Well, last night as I was contemplating this little blog, I looked at that figurine and it struck me…Legos, are the ultimate building blocks.

Is our relationship with Father as solid as those incredible displays that my daughter has built? So many times we come to God with our problems. We pray for him to help us through the tough times, and the challenges. Don’t get me wrong I totally understand and have been there. I guess I would ask you to think about the foundation, the building blocks of your relationship with Father.

If we have a solid foundation with God, then we are comfortable enough to come to him not to take away the problems or the tough times, but rather to help us become stronger through these times. We can lean into Father and ask him to guide us through the challenges, to understand the path we are to take, and to grow with him every day.

Some would argue that Legos are the perfect building block. Well, the most perfect and strongest building block I know is Jesus. If we have a foundation built on our love and relationship with Jesus and the Father, there is nothing that can topple us.

1 Peter 2:7
Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who do not believe, “The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone”.
