Have You Ever Thought About the Chocolate Chip Cookie?

Well, have you? I mean let’s face it these are kind of a staple right? Ya, I know the American dessert is supposed to be apple pie, but really is it? Now that I have you totally wondering why I’m talking about chocolate chip cookies, and what on earth they have to do with anything I’ll give you a little backstory.

Last night my husband and I were coming home after dinner and we passed a new cookie place in town called Crumbl. I had never heard of the chain, but everyone at my workout place is talking about how fabulous the cookies are. They opened last Friday and there has literally been a line out the door since then. So tonight as we were driving by I made the hard right into the parking lot. Hubs asked what we were doing and I said, “Well, they are supposed to be amazing, let’s give them a try”.

We waited in line, and yep it was out the door. Once inside we noticed that they were sold out of all but three flavors. Um, their menu changes every week?! They did have lemon-poppy seed, (hub’s favorite flavor), and their staple chocolate chip. Did I mention that there were 12, yes 12 people behind the counter doing nothing but prepping chocolate chip cookies on sheets for the oven? Yes, I said 12!

We ordered and picked up our cookies and headed home to make coffee. Cup beside us, box in front of us, anticipation building, we dove in! They were good, not going to lie. My chocolate chip cookie was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, it was good. But…it didn’t make me go, “Holy cow, I have to wait in line for 25 minutes for this cookie!”.

So, yes this experience made me think about the famed chocolate chip cookie. We’ve all had them, and probably most of us have made them, they come in various shapes and sizes. But…for the most part, the ingredients are the same. There may be a little secret pinch of this or dash of that in your recipe, but again, let’s face it, pretty much the same.

Might be a stretch I guess, but isn’t this kind of like us humans? We come in various shapes and sizes. Some of us have a little more spice than others, but at the end of the day, we are all God’s children. We are more alike than we are different, and we are asked by Jesus to “Love one another as I have loved you”.

Just something to ponder on this Saturday morning while you enjoy your coffee. What the heck, make a batch of cookies today and take them to a neighbor or a family member and enjoy how much God loves us and…share that love with others.

1 John 4:19
We love because he first loved us.
