Many of you know that I work out throughout the week. I’m an early riser and I like to knock this piece of my day off the list, quite honestly to make sure it gets accomplished. I know if I wait until the end of the day, I simply will not do it.
I spend my mornings at a little gym called Eat the Frog. What the heck does a frog have to do with working out 🙂 Well, the name comes from a Mark Twain quote, “Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day”. So, I get my workout in first thing, “eating the frog”, and it’s done.
We have a regular group at the 6:00 am class, and we’ve all gotten to be friends. We encourage each other, hold each other accountable, lift each other up and whenever possible, we laugh, (like during peak week, which just happens to be this week!). What I like about the group is we’re all different ages, probably 25 – 70, we’re different shapes and sizes, on different fitness journeys, etc. But, we all have one thing in common, we’re trying to take care of our bodies, our temples.
Father created us as an image of himself. He has blessed us with an incredible “machine”, our body. It’s amazing how all the parts fit together and how it will rejuvenate itself. Our body of course is our home for this little time here on this earth, and we owe it to Father to do our best to take care of it.
Please don’t misunderstand, I’m not suggesting that everyone should join a gym, work out 7 days a week, cut every bad food item from their diet, and ready themselves for the next ironman competition. Not at all. What I am saying is there are simple things we can indeed do to take care of this amazing temple Father has given us.
- Yes, we all need to probably eat healthier. I’m trying for sure, as I tend to really slip depending on what’s happening in my life. Like many, I’m a stress eater, OY, isn’t that just pleasant 🙂
- We need to also give our body the rest it needs. I know, I’m a good example of this lately as well 🙂 However, I am making this a priority and it has helped the way I feel for sure!
- We need to drink water and lots of it. Step away from the soda or energy drinks and drink some good ole fashion H2O! Your body needs this to stay hydrated and trust me you will feel better!
- And…we need to ‘eat the frog’ and exercise. Even if you just take 20 minutes out of your day, whenever that may be, and walk. Just MOVE. You don’t need to be a gym member or run five miles a day, but you need to get your body moving. Take a break from your desk and go outside and walk. Or walk up and down some stairs, do some water aerobics, or ride a bike. There are tons of ways to exercise your body 🙂
At the end of the day, we only have this one temple. The Lord has blessed us, we are all unique and yet we are all similar, we are made in his image. Let’s show our gratitude by doing our best to take care of the gift he has given, we can do it together 🙂
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
