Yes, the clean-up has begun after Ian. Yesterday as we began reinstalling the gate arms to our community, we simply could not believe how beautiful the morning was. What a difference a day makes right?! The sky was an amazing blue, the temperature was about 71 degrees and the air was “clean” if you know what I mean.
Branches and tree limbs were cleared from drains, and mopping and washing things, were the standard tasks. We made our way down to Marco to lend a hand serving food to residents around noon. One sweet woman made her way down the street, a tiny little lady, asked, “Are those hamburgers?”, they sure are we replied. “I haven’t had a hot meal in days”. She jokingly asked if she could have two and proudly ate them both. We all laughed together and made sure she had one for the road π
Heading back home, we made the loop around the island. Palm trees are gone, boats sitting in front yards, jet ski on someone’s front steps, um, not their ski, homeowners with the contents of their homes on their driveway just to dry out. There are so many pictures, and I know you are seeing them on the news, so no need to post them here.
We’re heading down to help at our church today which sustained major water in the sanctuary itself. The great hall is at a higher elevation so we’ll do services there for a while. Mops and buckets in two might just keep these kinds of things in the car for a while π
One final note, in August I made a post about the Dome Homes here near the 10,000 Islands, you can read that one HERE. Well, unfortunately, they didn’t survive the storm, they are gone. Just another reminder that things change and nothing is permanent, not even this life. We are here for just a short time, and while we are here, it’s our job to love each other like Father loves us.
Father doesn’t care if we are black or white, democrat or republican, male or female. We are God’s children, plain and simple. We will rebuild and we’ll do it together, with Father’s help. Keep the prayers coming everyone π
John 15:12
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”
