Over the past week we’ve been helping at our church as we continue to clean up and repair after Ian. There is a sign up sheet to log in when you arrive and when you leave and what tasks you are working on.
Parishioners from all walks of life are coming together to sweep, powerwash, water flowers, replant trees, move furniture, throw out damaged items, etc. It’s not easy work, but we work together, we laugh we encourage and we just do what needs to be done.
This is the story all over SW Florida. We are just doing. There is so much that needs to be done, and you often don’t know where to start, so, you just pick a spot and start. Before you know it a sidewalk is cleared, a house is emptied, meals are served, etc.
I was thinking last night as I tried to relax a bit, isn’t that how our relationship with Father works. Doesn’t he ask us to just do it? Just reach out to a neighbor, talk to a person in need, or just be a mentor to a child. I think we need to stop overthinking things, and just do. Just dive in to lend a hand wherever you think it best belongs.
Our world has gotten complicated. Over the past week, as the internet and communications have been spotty, people have literally almost had breakdowns. They can’t connect. How in the world did we communicate before 3G, 4G, and NOW 5G. We would connect with those lil’ ol’ telephones attached to the wall. Well, heck, maybe we should look at going back to that! Sorry, maybe that was uncalled for. My point is, we rely so much on cell phones that we can’t function. Hmmmmmm, not a good plan in my opinion.
We need our connection with Father, (which by the way it doesn’t take a 5G connection). We need to be here for our neighbors, friends, and family. We also need to just do. Help your family, help your neighbors, help your community. Together we get through hurricanes and we lift each other through hardships. Don’t underestimate the power of God’s children coming together. Together we can move mountains.
Matthew 21:21
And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, “Be taken up and thrown into the sea,” it will happen.
