Sometimes they get a bad wrap. I know I’ve done it myself, commented on how our youth don’t want to work, are too wrapped up in their technology, their way of communicating is by text, not an actual conversation, you get the idea. I can’t help but wonder if we as parents have done them a disservice by not taking away those devices, by not forcing them to read a book or to go outside and play, or to yes, make them do work around the home as part of a weekly routine.
Well, over the past few weeks I’ve had the privilege of seeing some of the best of our youth. I’ve had parents contact me to say they want to volunteer, “I have a nine-year-old and he wants to help too”. Another father spent the week with his two young boys, both age 11, collecting supplies, making donations, driving around neighborhoods to help clean up muck, move furniture and provide assistance wherever they could. A 24-year-old man messaged me and said, “I’m 24 and can help wherever you need me”, and he finished his email by saying, “Thanks for letting me be of service”. The Youth Group at our church stepped up in a big way to help with emptying the Sunday school rooms, moving furniture, washed desks, etc, they were just awesome. These are just a few examples, I know there are many, many more, not only from here in SW Florida after Ian, but all around our country, where are youth are making a difference.
I’ve said it before, our children, our youth are one of Father’s most precious gifts to us. Not only do we need to take care of them, especially during times like this, (after Ian), but we need to provide every opportunity for them to grow strong, healthy, and prepared for life. We can help them build strong character, be respectful, and caring and have a personal relationship with Father.
Our youth are our future. They will one day be the individuals driving thousands of miles to help reconnect power to people they don’t even know, they’ll be the first responders saving citizens from burning buildings, they’ll be the business owners supporting the local little league. Let’s make sure we help our children be the very best they can, and most importantly let’s make sure they have a strong foundation with Father 🙂
Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when is is old he will not depart from it.
