Football

Yesterday was a day filled with continued clean-up efforts. I met some new friends and realized how easy it is to get to know people 🙂 .

Yesterday was of course also college football game day! A quick scroll through FB provided pictures of friends back home at the pregame tailgate. Other posts showed support for their favorite teams, everyone sporting their favorite colors and fanware. Heck, I even added “Go Illini” to my social media link to this little blog yesterday 🙂 .

As the day rolled on, and we hauled items out of the house where I was helping, football games were on the radios. It was a slice of normalcy you could say. Within those tasks, we completed you could hear someone yell “touchdown”! People cheered, laughed, and razzed about teams, scores, and referees. It was a good feeling. Oh, and did I mention that the Fighting Illini are now 6 – 1. Ya, it’s been a while since that has happened so yes, it was a good feeling!

Last night during dinner with friends, the Tennessee – Alabama game was on in the restaurant. We watched as the game came to a close, and like most everyone thought it would go into overtime. Not so, the AL kicker missed the last-minute field goal. Tennessee gets possession, advances the ball, and boom their kicker nails a last-second kick right through the uprights. The crowd in the restaurant starts clapping, smiles, and yes a good feeling.

I’m going around the bush a bit with this little blog today, but my point is, Father is helping us get through times like this with distraction and connection. Something like college football did that yesterday.

Don’t underestimate the ability to get through difficult times. Look for those things that bring you joy, watching college football, listening to music, spending time with your family, take time to enjoy them. We are a strong lot that’s for sure, and Father only continues to strengthen us even more.

To my Illini friends, woot, woot, I-L-L. To my Alabama friends, well, college game day happens again next week 🙂
