We live in a small community where the units are pretty much on one circular drive. You can drive in and follow the road all the way around with condos on either side and make your way back out the drive if that makes sense. My point to that is, everyday neighbors make their way around on their morning bike ride, walking their fur babies, taking a walk after dinner, you get the idea. It’s an easy “walk through the neighborhood” because it’s just one big circle.
My husband and I have always loved to use our outdoor grill. Even when we were in Illinois we grilled year-round. The standing joke in our family is how he used to shovel a path through the snow to the grill in the winter months. Well, no shoveling now, and we still use our grill year-round. Virtually every night we’re out in our driveway grilling.
What’s so interesting is the connection we’ve made with neighbors during this time. Each night there is usually some catch-up conversation that starts with, “What’s cooking tonight?”. Once we get past the menu, we catch up on activities, I get my fix of dog kisses, talk about upcoming community events, learn about new neighbors, hear about recent trips, or who just got back for the season. This “driveway time” as I’ve dubbed it, is nice.
Yesterday afternoon some neighbors invited us over for a little happy hour in their driveway around the corner. The weather was beautiful and we sat outside and nibbled over a beverage while their pup Panda enjoyed the company. As we sat and chatted, neighbors began to wander by. We all waved and invited people to join. Again, I caught up on my dog kisses from the pups, and we chatted and laughed.
You see, Father gives us opportunities to join in fellowship wherever we are, be it church, work, or yes, just in our driveway. During these times, I think he looks to us to share his love. He brings us together to be there for each other.
So, as you start your week, look for those “driveway times”. Take the opportunity to be present and share the love of Father.
Happy Monday friends π .
