Last night I got a text from my youngest daughter. I was making dinner when it came in. It was a simple text, “Mayo, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, salt, pepper. That’s all that’s in the sauce right?”. I simply replied back, “Splash o water”. Her response was, “LOL what’s really funny is I just have to give you ingredients and you know exactly what I’m talking about π “. I laughed and just confirmed via text that she was talking about the lemon dijon sauce I make to accompany a nice piece of salmon, and it was indeed what she was asking about.
We’ve all heard about relationships where couples or friends know each other so well they can finish each other’s sentences. It feels good when these types of relationships fill our lives. We’re comfortable, we feel connected, supported, and safe. Question is, do we have this kind of relationship with Father?
When God reaches out to us with ingredients, do we understand what he’s talking about? When he puts us in situations or shows us a need do we get what he’s showing us? I know myself, there are many, many times I simply don’t know what he wants me to make from what he’s given me. That’s ok, we only need to ask. I don’t think God expects us to have all the answers, but I do think he expects us to take what he gives us and make something good of it.
I’m trying not to look at this life as a complex recipe. I want to build my relationship with Father so that when he reaches out to me with ingredients, (opportunities), I understand what he wants without asking. It’s not easy many days, as the challenges of the past few years have taken their toll, but each day I try and I’ll keep building that relationship.
So this morning, as you ready yourself for the day, take a moment to reflect on those comfortable relationships you have, and ask Father to help you continue to build one with him. Oh, and just because, send a text to your kids and tell ’em you love them π .
Have a great day friends π
