A Trimming We Will Go

I’ve shared in this little blog in past posts the traditions our family has had over the years, especially around Christmas. The first weekend in December was always set aside for cutting down the real tree and decorating the house. Well this year due to some scheduling conflicts, we’re having to move things up a week. Soooo, today is the day for making our home full of Christmas.

Each year our home looks a little different when the decorating is completed, but each year it looks beautiful. There is just something about having your home filled with the magic of Christmas. Sounds like something right out of a movie script right?! I’m serious though, your home just feels different. Maybe it’s the anticipation of the season and everything that Christmas brings.

One of my favorite cookbooks is from 1990 called “Christmas from the Heart of The Home” by Susan Branch. I love this book because it’s so much more than a cookbook, it’s a book about everything Christmas. Each year I take it out and reread the recipes, the tree-trimming ideas, and the suggestions for little gifts, and I remember the years when I used these ideas in our own home. It just makes me smile to go through it 🙂 .

So today as we transform our home we’ll also be remembering Christmas pasts. We’ll place the hand made ornaments our kids made on the tree with care, and we’ll play remember when as other decorations come out of their boxes. And, I may even find a few things in Susan’s book to try this year.

Whatever you have planned today, whether decorating or hanging with family or attending one of the college football games, I hope your day is filled with traditions and memories. Have a great Saturday friends 🙂 .

1 Corinthians 11:1-2
Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. Now I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I delivered them to you.
