Over the past week or so I’ve been listening to Christmas songs, yes I know, go figure, anyway… I’ve been trying to listen to songs that aren’t the mainstay. Don’t get me wrong, I love the favorites, O’ Come All Ye Faithful is my absolute favorite, oh and yes I’ll even turn up Mariah’s “All I Want for Christmas is You”, maybe once 🙂 .
Yesterday while listening to a mix of different tunes this song came up. It’s performed by Mercy Me and it grabbed me. It’s sung from Joseph’s perspective as he’s praying for his little baby Jesus to just rest. I played it several times to listen to the words. As I listened I thought of my own children when they were babies. As parents we want our children to have sweet dreams, rest peacefully, and know that they are safe. That is what Joseph is wishing for in this song, only he knows what weight is upon the shoulders of his Child.
So as you’re readying yourself for the day, give a listen to Joseph’s Lullaby. I’ve included the version below with the words. Hope you find it as meaningful as I did.
Matthew 1:20-21
But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins”.
