Celebration Day

Today is the day we celebrate The Epiphany. I’ve given a touch of history about the 12 days of Christmas in this little blog, and today we officially mark the end of Christmas as we celebrate the Epiphany. In the first centuries, Christians chose this day to celebrate the various manifestations, or “epiphanies” of Jesus’ divinity. These showings of his divinity included his birth, the coming of the Magi, his baptism, and the Wedding at Cana where he miraculously changed water into wine. The day was called “The Feast of Lights.”

So today, the closest Sunday to January 6th, we celebrate the Baptism of our Lord. Can you just imagine being there when Jesus came up out of the water, as the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove? As I think about him being Baptised I think about how he truly became one of us, even to the point of washing clean from sin. He truly walked in our shoes and felt what we feel, was tempted as we are, felt anger, felt sadness, and even wept when his friend died. He experienced all that we go through in life, and then, in the end, gave it all. He was mocked, spat on, beaten, nailed to a cross, and ultimately died for us.

But, then three days later, he showed us, there is new life if we believe in him. Not only believe in him, but choose to live our lives more like he did, he showed us the way. We are not perfect, of course not, and we will stumble, we will make mistakes, some of them doozies, but, if we come back to him for forgiveness and guidance, he will help us right our paths.

So today friends, just a bit more history about this celebration day. I hope you can take some time today to celebrate our Lord and what he gave us. Remember that you are loved more than you will ever know by one who knows love better than anyone.

Happy Sunday Friends 🙂 .

Matthew 3:16-17
And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
