Prayers for Harriet’s Return

A few months ago I shared a post in this little blog about the eagles we have down here, (the header pic of this blog today is an eagle just outside our lanai a few weeks ago). We’re fortunate to have the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam that keeps track of one eagle family in the Ft. Meyers area, we can watch from afar their beauty. This family, the mother named Harriet and the father named M-15 just celebrated the “birth” of two eaglets less than a month ago. We were able to watch the eaglets hatching, and Harriet feeding them not long after, it was awesome to see.

Yesterday our local WINK news shared a story that the mother Harriet has been missing for more than 24 hours 😦 . This as you can guess is not good news. You see, eagles like many bird species, mate for life, so she didn’t just leave to find another mate.

The father, M-15 has been seen protecting the nest and his babies, even fending off other eagles, locking talons in the air around the nest. One of the raptor specialists commented that “It’s not living like we do, it’s surviving which is a lot harder. So yes, they’re constantly fending off predators that would feed on their babies and themselves”.

When the eagles have babies, one will go hunt for food while the other stays to protect the babies. If M-15 went hunting for food and Harriet had to defend the nest, it’s possible she didn’t do well with the attack 😦 .

Today friends, please lift a prayer for the return of Harriet and the safety of M-15 and the babies. You see, he will have to leave the nest to hunt for food, leaving the eaglets in the nest by themselves unprotected. M-15 is a beautiful bird and a devoted father, you can tell when you watch the camera. It’s so easy to see why these animals are the symbol of our beautiful nation. You can watch the activity of their nest by clicking on the video below.

Genesis 1:20
And God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.
