I had fun yesterday, well duh you might say, it was Valentine’s day right?! Well yes, that’s true, and I guess I took advantage of it.
I had already planned to make a nice dinner, so I took the opportunity to make a meal totally from scratch. I swung by the store after my workout yesterday morning to pick up the last few things I needed for dinner. Several people were picking up flower arrangements, boxes of chocolate, cards, and such, oh the last-minute Valentine’s shoppers 🙂 .
As I left the store a thought came to mind…our amazing local donut shop. They have, without a doubt the BEST donuts on the planet, just saying. I was first introduced to Trackside Donuts shortly after hurricane Ian when someone from our church brought them in one day while we were doing cleanup work. They are also known for the incredible apple fritters, which are the size of a small pizza. Well, I decided to make the trip over there and grab a few goodies for not only us but for a few neighbors.
When I got there, the place was packed as I would have guessed, everyone had the same idea. We all decided to give fritters instead of chocolate 🙂 . I grabbed three fritters and off I went to deliver the goods so to speak. I happily made my way to the doors of our neighbors when I got home and wished each a Happy Valentine’s Day. My husband and I split our fritter and chatted over a cup of coffee. It was a nice change for the middle of the week and a great start to the day.
As I said, I also took the opportunity to make dinner from scratch. It was nice to be in the kitchen chopping, using fresh herbs, and filling the house with smells. In case you’re wondering a made a short rib ragu pasta dish 🙂 . As I chopped and braised and made my way through the recipe, I just felt at peace. I guess that probably sounds weird right?
It’s hard to explain but I felt Father was pleased. You see I had taken the time to slow down a bit. I thought about friends and took the time to deliver them a treat, I spent time in the kitchen, spent a little extra time talking with my husband, and at the end of the day, I felt more relaxed. Maybe that’s what Father wanted me to experience. All because I decided on fritters instead of chocolate 🙂 . Ooooohh, I wonder, do you think there are fritters in Heaven?
I hope you all had a great Valentine’s Day my friends, and hope you have a great day today!
