Godparents

Yesterday on the way home my husband and I were able to have dinner with our Godson and it was wonderful. Even though we all live in Florida, we don’t get together enough, and we decided last night that needed to change.

Unlike many Godparents, we aren’t the aunt and uncle, or the friends that grew up with Colin’s parents, no we became his Godparents because he and our youngest were inseparable as children. When we moved into the neighborhood, it wasn’t long before Lauren met Colin and the two became best friends, and still are today πŸ™‚ .

Colin would always be at our house, in the pool, riding bikes, etc. Soon we were taking him to church with us on Sundays. It just became the norm to stop and pick him up on the way. One thing lead to another and it wasn’t long before I asked his parents if he had been baptized. Lola and Brad shared that neither of their boys had been and they were so touched that we had asked if it would be ok for Colin to be baptized. They agreed and asked us if we would please be his Godparents. So, that year on Easter morning, Colin was baptized with several others as his parents and older brother joined us at church. It was a special day and one that we were so proud to be a part of.

Later that summer we were talking to Colin’s dad after bringing him home from church one morning. Brad was outside moving some small evergreen trees on his property. My husband was chatting with him about how we were looking for some of these types of trees to plant on the west side of our house. We were still building up landscaping at that point. Brad offered to bring over a few that he was trying to thin out on his property. Awesome!

Well, two hours later Brad shows up with his tractor/digger and three small evergreens!! He planted those trees that afternoon for us, and Brad wouldn’t take a dime when my husband went to pay him for the trees. My husband insisted, “Brad what can I pay you for these”. He simply answered, “You just keep doing what you’re doing with Colin”. I will never forget what he said to us that day.

Over the years, as I said, we have not been as close to Colin geographically, but we keep in touch. Like our own children, we are always here for him, he is our family. Our role as his Godparents is to keep showing him the love of Father and trying to guide him as best we can. He’s a good “kid” and has come a long way,, and we’re blessed to be in his life. We’ll keep “doing what we’re doing” for him.

Have an awesome day my friends, take some time with Father as you make your way through the day πŸ™‚ .

Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
