Worthiness or Willingness

Yesterday like many, my husband and I went to Ash Wednesday service. This service is very solemn and it definitely makes you reflect, or at least it did me, this year more than usual.

Let me share my thoughts with you and I understand they might be a little edgy. Within the service there are many references to how we have sinned, acknowledging our love of earthly things, and even our unworthiness. Within one of our regular prayers right before communion, we recite that “we are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under thy table, but Thou art the same Lord whose property is always to have mercy”. There it is again, our unworthiness.

I’ve been thinking about this quite a bit today, and I don’t think Father feels we are unworthy. He created us in his image, he created us out of love. Why would He think we are unworthy? You see I don’t think it’s a question of whether we are worthy, it’s a question of whether we are willing. Are we willing to do our best to live the life that Father intended? Are we willing to do our best to live the life that Jesus lived?

We are not perfect, oh my heavens no. But, we are God’s children. We will make mistakes, we are human. However, if we think that we are unworthy to be his children, then why are we even here? And, if Father thinks we are unworthy, why bother to create us?

Lots of questions this morning I know, but I do truly believe that God does not feel we are unworthy, this is a label we have placed on ourselves. I feel I am worthy to be a child of God, and over these past few years, I’ve strengthened my resolve and willingness to be a child He will be proud of. Will I make mistakes, of course, I will, and I will admit those mistakes to Father and ask for forgiveness and strength to not make them again.

At the end of the day my friends, we have but one life here in this world. Are we going to go through it feeling like we are unworthy, or are we willing to live each day like Jesus did? There are days when it’s difficult, days when Satan has his way. If you want unworthy, there you go, Satan is unworthy. He is the fallen Angel, right? Let’s not let the unworthy fallen Angel convince us that we too are unworthy.

No, my friends, we are Father God’s precious children. Let’s do our best to make Him proud. Thank you as always for your incredible support of this little blog. Have a great day 🙂 .

Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
