New Old Neighbors

One of our neighbors recently had knee replacement surgery. She lives alone and the community has come together to help her get back on her feet so to speak. She has a little fox terrier named Milton, he’s a little older but just laid back dude. His mom walks him regularly, and as you can imagine there was some coordinating to be done while she recovers.

Well, you all know me, I love spending time with the pups around the neighborhood so I’ve taken the morning shift, walking Milton around 7:15 am, right about the time I get home from the gym during the week, and on Saturdays. We have a great time meeting up with the other dogs around the neighborhood, yes, we of course run into Toby, and I enjoy taking the lap around the community.

Sundays we head to church so I’m not able to walk Milton and others have been filling that spot. Yesterday morning when I brought Milton back home after our walk, his mom shared something with me. She’s lived here for several years and while she’s said hi to her upstairs neighbors, or made small talk at the mailbox, they really don’t interact much. They are nice people, and they are some of the original residents of our community. Well, she shared that her upstairs neighbor has repeatedly asked if there is anything they can do to help while she’s recovering. So, she asked if they could walk Milton on Sunday morning, and they said absolutely πŸ™‚ .

Isn’t it interesting to see Father bringing his children together? Neighbors who have lived near each other for several years, reach out to help each other. I realize this is just a simple act, but it means so much and it’s an opportunity to build our community even stronger. The more we know each other, the more we lend a hand, the closer we become and when the need arises, we can be there for each other. Oh, and I’m pretty certain there will be lots of thank-you baked goods making the rounds, once Milton’s mom is healed, (she’s quite the baker).

Friends, I’ve suggested this before, if you don’t know your neighbors, take a little time to say hi and learn more about them. You never know when a need may arise and a helping hand will be needed, by you or by them. Have a great day everyone πŸ™‚ .

Acts 20:35
In all things, I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, β€˜It is more blessed to give than to receive.’
