Spring Cleaning

Ahhhh, yes just the words bring visions of tidiness, right? Some may dread it, but actually, something is refreshing about doing a thorough cleaning of a space. Whether that be your home, vehicle, your office, it doesn’t matter the space, once it’s gone through that thorough emptying out, washing down, and/or reorganizing, it feels like a new space.

I don’t know who coined the phrase spring cleaning, why not fall cleaning or winter cleaning? I’m guessing it’s because spring is when things are renewed. The flowers are blooming, buds on the trees, and new life is everywhere. Spring is when we celebrate Easter and the resurrection of our Lord, again new life.

We’re moving into Holy week in a few days, (wow that was fast), beginning with Palm Sunday. With that will come spring cleaning. The silver will be polished, new candles will arrive, fresh palms for palm Sunday, and a little elbow grease as we make everything sparkle for the celebration.

I guess as I think about this little concept of Spring cleaning, I can really do this in my spiritual life as well. Here’s what I mean…taking some time to clean out the things that keep me separated from a closer relationship with Father. For instance, doing some cleaning of my schedule to spend quiet time each day with Him. Washing away the uncertainty of God’s presence that creeps in when bad things happen. Emptying the clutter that fills my mind and keeps me from giving all of myself to Him for His use. Yes, there is some work to be done here to tidy things up 🙂 .

So friends, if you’ve got some upcoming Spring cleaning on your docket, take some time to include your spiritual surroundings in that list of to do’s. Renewing our relationship with God brings a brightness that overshadows even the most beautiful flowers of Spring.

Have a great day my friends, I have an office to go tidy up 🙂 .

Psalm 51:10
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
