Amazing Grace

I woke up hearing this song this morning. I’m sure for most just seeing the words Amazing Grace your mind goes to the beautiful hymn written by John Newton in 1772. I encourage you to read about the history of this hymn, here, (that’s not my focus today).

The song fills me with memories. Our oldest daughter sang this at my mom’s funeral. I remember hearing it many times right after 9/11. It was played by a bagpiper at my best friend Page’s funeral. Yes, it’s typically played during times of sadness.

However, the song is about how through the trials and storms of this life, grace and faith in Father are what will bring us through. We are imperfect, we sin, we make mistakes, ya I guess you could say we screw up. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the happenings in this world that we unwittingly take our eyes away from Father. Sometimes I have to tell myself, “STOP”. Refocus…”Eyes on Christ”.

Friends, take a moment this morning and just STOP. Focus your eyes on Christ, and know that through His Grace, through our unbreakable faith in Him, we will be led home. Trust and faith and glory be to God our Father, whose love for us surpasses all understanding.

Here is one of my favorite versions of this beautiful hymn. Enjoy.

Ephesians 2:8
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.
