Church Ladies and Mom

Yesterday in this little blog I mentioned that my husband and I were starting the day with coffee and a danish at one of our local restaurants. It’s a small Vietnamese/French cafe. We have been there several times for dinner but have not been there for coffee and pastries in the morning. Well, let me just say we were NOT disappointed! The cappuccino and beignets were awesome, and we even opted for breakfast after that, which was yummy!

I think Father was telling us we needed to be there yesterday. When we arrived we realized we had gotten there a few minutes before they opened. A few cars pulled in just after we did and as I looked at the passenger in one of the cars I thought I recognized her from our church. Not long after another car pulled in, and then another. As the women started to get out of their vehicles I realized that they were all from our church. I remembered at that point that I had heard about a group of ladies who met regularly for coffee on Saturday mornings. Well, we found them this week. What are the odds? There are tons of coffee shops and cafes in this town and they wandered into ours, (ok ya right out of a Bogie movie that was right?). We walked up and gave hugs and good mornings, and did some catch-up with them all. They asked if we wanted to sit with them and to be honest I don’t think there was room in the small cafe for a table that large, so we opted to sit at a little two top next to them.

We enjoyed our coffee and meal and just listening to the ladies chit-chat. They explained that they would probably be there most of the morning 🙂 . It was such a feel-good time, everyone that came into the cafe yesterday was in a great mood and the staff was simply awesome. As I looked around I realized again the amazing gifts that God provides. The gift of close friends, the gift of a small business owner and a team who takes incredible pride in what they do, the gift of the simple Saturday morning.

I thought about my mom briefly as we were leaving yesterday morning? Would she have been one of those ladies going for coffee on Saturday mornings? I’d like to think she would have been, but I’m not quite sure. I know I wished she was still here to find out.

Today is Mom’s birthday and as with the other anniversaries, I miss her tons. She definitely left this world too soon, and I miss having her here for all the milestones, not just for me but for my kids and my grandkids. I know I’ll be with her again one day, and hey, I might even ask if she would have been one of those ladies to spend time with friends on a Saturday morning. For now, though, I’ll just say a little prayer of thanks to Father for bringing that little group into my life.

Have a great day my friends!
