Sporting the Red

Yesterday, if you read this little blog, you know that I was helping at church to make the fixings for strawberry shortcake. We’re serving these little gems after our services this morning. I must say, things went stellar and the homemade cakes, beautiful fresh strawberries, oh my, ya this is gonna be good šŸ™‚ .

Anyway, why were we doing this you might wonder. Well, today is the feast of Pentecost. Pentecost is the day the Holy Spirit descended on His people. The book of Acts tells us, “And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other languages, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”. We celebrate today, this 50 days after Easter, and 10 days after the Ascension, we celebrate the work of the Holy Spirit.

Also on this day, we wear red, not only our clergy but the congregation is encouraged to wear red. The red signifies the work and the fire of the Holy Spirit. It’s actually pretty fun to see most of the church sporting their red attire. Being Memorial Day weekend, I have the addition of my Stars and Stripes sandals this morning as well šŸ™‚ .

So, yes we’ll be celebrating the Holy Spirit today, and we’ll do so with fresh homemade strawberry shortcake. This is a first for us with the shortcake, but I’m thinking it will become our annual tradition for Pentecost. Just a fun way to glorify Father.

Thanks for letting me share a little history, have an awesome Sunday my friends šŸ™‚ .

John 14:26
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
