I saw a post on social media yesterday by a veteran. It read:
“This weekend is NOT for us vets. Don’t thank us. This weekend IS for our brothers and sisters who paid the ultimate price, who didn’t come home alive. THANK THEM.”
There really isn’t much else I can add to that. Memorial Day is a day of remembrance and honoring those who gave their lives in service to this nation. Those who gave their lives to protect the freedoms we Americans enjoy every day. They gave their lives so that some can stomp on, mangle, or burn the Stars and Stripes, our country’s flag. They gave their lives to protect freedom of speech, so some can say they hate this great land. They gave their lives in faraway country’s so that other human beings could simply live without fear of being killed or raped or tortured. They went, they served, they gave their lives.
A few months ago in this little blog, I wrote about a friend of mine who gave his life for this country. His name was Tom, (Tommy), Gilbert. Here is a LINK to his story, I hope you’ll take a moment to learn more about this special man. He was an old soul, but he was killed in Iraq when he was only 24 years old.
Today is a day to honor men and women like Tommy. They went, they served, they gave their lives. Thank you, Tommy and all the other brave men and women. We owe you a debt we can never repay, and we will NEVER forget your sacrifice. May Father keep your souls close to Him, until we see you again. God Bless You and this great Nation.
John 15:13
Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
