Diggin’ in the Dirt

One of the things that I miss most about living in the Midwest is the planting of flowers and a small garden in the Spring. I loved how the new plants in pots all around just made things look fresh and new. The garden, though very small, was therapy for me. I love digging in the dirt, getting the soil ready for new life.

Well, yesterday I took a little time to dig in the dirt. Much smaller scale of course, as here in our little community I have only a few flower pots to tend to. One of the plants we purchased several months ago for our front entrance area has been failing miserably, so we found something I think might do the trick as a replacement. Yesterday I got my hands dirty and did some transplanting and repotting of several plants.

As I went through the repotting process and dug around in the dirt just making sure the plants had room to spread their roots, I found myself chatting with Father. I even found myself saying a little prayer for the new Yuka plant to be happy in its new home and prayed for strong roots to help it grow. I found myself just chatting with God, it was different than my usual prayers to Him. This was more of just a conversation, “How’s your day going” kind of thing. Seems crazy I guess, but it was nice.

Times like these, digging in the dirt, walking a nature trail, standing near the water, or just sitting on your back porch, times like these are wonderful gifts from Father. Perhaps these gifts are given to us just so we can have a conversation with Him. These special times help strengthen our relationship with God, and help bring us closer to Him.

As we begin the week, maybe take a few moments to plan some digging in the dirt time with Father. Whatever your likes, wherever your happy place is, plan some special time with Him. Just have a conversation and enjoy that special time together 🙂 .

Have a wonderful day my friends!

And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
