Over the past several weeks we’ve gotten into a routine of going to breakfast with some fellow parishioners. It started because we used to just run into each other at different breakfast places on an occasional Sunday. So a few weeks ago Judy said to me during coffee hour in our great hall, “Where are you guys going for breakfast today?”. I told her I hadn’t even thought about it and the next thing you know the two of us had picked a place and grabbed the husbands to go eat π .
It’s kind of a regular thing now, we alternate who chooses the place, for instance, last week, Carl pulled a receipt from his pocket from one year ago. It was from a great little diner we all love here, and he proclaimed, “Well, must be a sign, let’s head over to Good Times!”. Off we went to enjoy one of their specialties, grilled biscuits π .
Over these past weeks, we’ve had fun catching up from the previous week. We learn more about each other from our younger days, share about kids and grandkids and continue to build a strong friendship. As I’ve mentioned before, I feel like Father is guiding us on this journey as we connect with more and more people. I can feel Him in the center of these relationships that are building.
The first few times we had breakfast together I would ask if we could say a prayer before we ate. Of course, everyone said yes. Now, we just do, it’s the norm. And…yesterday, as we waited for our food and chatted over coffee, I noticed a table next to ours. The server delivered their food and the couple at the table held hands and said grace. I’ve noticed this in more and more places lately, people openly giving thanks to Father before they eat.
Sometimes I think people are uncomfortable doing this in public. However, I think the more of us that openly give thanks before eating, the more common it will become. There shouldn’t be discomfort when we give thanks to Father, He has provided everything for us, my goodness let’s just say thank you.
So, let’s change the norm, let’s say thanks to Father before we enjoy good food at a restaurant, regardless of what meal it is. Hey, after all, Father is our true breakfast buddy, well, actually He’s our lunch and dinner buddy too π .
Have an awesome day my friends! Oh, and thanks for the continued prayers for Kayla, she’s out of ICU and yesterday was eating solid food!
1 Thessalonians 5:18
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
