Camp Able

Summer is a time for camp. I remember when our kids were young, every year in July we would pack them up and off to camp they would go. Every year they would get so excited because they would reconnect with friends, and over the years, they would become counselors. Of course, I have to admit that one week of experiencing “empty nesting” didn’t hurt πŸ™‚ .

If you are a regular reader to this little blog you know that I’m a member of a wonderful organization, The Marco Patriots. Our organization educates the community on disaster preparation & communication, and provides humanitarian response to disasters, including hot meal services, disaster services for animals and missing person search assistance. Well, those are things we are officially known for. However, we also do much in the community where this isn’t a potential disaster on the horizon. This week volunteers from the Patriots are onsite at Camp Able, a local summer camp for special needs people.

I’ve been looking at the pictures that have been posted as they have prepared for camp. It’s been fun to watch the build-up as they made sticker-covered Yeti cups and assorted other goodies to have on hand for the counselors and campers. The Patriots are providing free food at the mobile Burger Shack. We’re pretty experienced at providing hot meals in disaster recovery situations, and it’s nice to be able to do this for the community in less stressful situations, and support a wonderful program!

One of the things I noticed about these few days is the incredible support to ready the counselors for the week ahead and the support to ensure each camper has a wonderful experience. Regardless of their special need, there are activities to ensure each camper can participate fully. What else did I notice, well, it’s simple, Father is in the midst of this event. Yesterday, before the Patriots began serving at the camp, they bowed their heads in prayer.

Yes, my friends, there is a whole lotta prayer going on these days and it is truly wonderful to see. I know broken record here, but Father is moving through his children, and it is so visible.

This morning I lift up prayers to all the counselors, campers, and Patriots supporting Camp Able this week. It’s incredibly hot and humid here this week, the hottest it’s been in about nine years, so I lift prayers for everyone. May you be safe, drink a lot of water and have an amazing experience!

Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
