Yesterday was a Monday and I don’t think it was just me. Everyone I talked to was sharing that their day had been off, a little crazy, and commented that “it’s been a Monday”. I started wondering if there was a full moon or something.
At one point I looked down at my desk and caught a glimpse of a coaster that sits there. It’s from my favorite place, Marco Island and it’s quite simple actually. A picture of an Adirondack chair sitting on the beach facing the ocean. Yes, I thought, that is where I would prefer to be at the moment. Just looking at the picture calmed me, and gave me a sense of being relaxed. What is it about those chairs that immediately make us think of a relaxed place?
When we lived up north we had two Adirondack chairs on a little patio area that faced our pool. Actually just beyond our backyard was a large corn field, or bean field depending on the year. I preferred the years when the corn was there, it was amazing to watch it grow. When the late summer would roll around the corn would be tall, you could almost hear it growing, and the deer would run through. We’d sit on those Adirondacks in the evening after a long day and we’d watch as the fireflies would appear in and out of the corn. They would almost light up the sky 🙂 . I would sit and just thank Father for the gift of that evening.
Maybe our relationship with Father is like that Adirondack chair. The closer we are to Him the more relaxed and at peace we are. Kind of like being in that chair. Maybe I’m stretching things a bit, but you know like I said when I just looked at that coaster I felt so much more at peace. The simple picture of a chair. When I spend time talking with God, sharing my feelings, frustrations, and happiness, I feel that same peace. Don’t get me wrong, I have my days, like yesterday when things are crazy and I want to go back to bed and start over. But then, you step away for a bit and just ask Father to give you some guidance, help to refocus and guide you, you know kind of like looking at the picture of the chair.
Well friends, like I said, maybe I’m stretching things a bit this morning. I just say, if you have an Adirondack, you know the feeling of sitting in it and being at peace. If you don’t have one, I’m guessing you have a special place that makes you feel that way. Think about that place as you start your day, and then lean into your relationship with Father so being close to Him makes you feel that same way.
Have a great day my friends, may it be as relaxed and peaceful as sitting in an Adirondack 🙂 .
Colossians 3:15
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.
