If it Ain’t Broke…

Last night my husband and I were making dinner. Caesar salad was on as a side dish and as I was making my dad’s famous dressing, my husband was washing and readying the romaine. We have one of those “salad spinners” where you put the chopped lettuce that has been washed, into the bowl, toss on the lid and turn the handle to spin the bowl. It goes around really fast and when you take the lid off, ta-dah, dry lettuce. My dad gave this to us over 25 years ago. There are simpler versions on the market today, but this one works well, and hey my dad gave it to me. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

As I was washing the salad spinner last night, and was thinking about how long we’d had it, I got to thinking about another item we had for years. After my mother-in-law passed away and the kids were splitting up items from the farm, we brought home the refrigerator that was in her kitchen. It was the coolest fridge I had seen, and it was from 1964. It had crescent-shaped shelves and they swung out so you could get all the way to the back without having to lean into the fridge. Man, it was cool! Anyway, when we moved to Florida years ago, we gave the fridge, that was still working fine, and was overflow space for our main fridge, (we kept it in the garage), we gave it to a friend of our youngest. We told her, “Don’t clean the coils on the back, that gunk is probably what is keeping it running so well”. When we were in IL in May, she told us this fridge was STILL working well in her garage, although it holds mainly beverages now 🙂 . Sixty years later it’s still going strong. If it ain’t broke…

Recently I’ve been reading about countries that are in the process of rewriting the Bible. Um…rewriting it. The Bible is God’s word, it doesn’t need to be rewritten. I think it needs to be reread, but NOT rewritten. Why, why I ask would this even be considered. Why I ask is this even being allowed. No friends, the Bible, the living word of our Father, is not broken and doesn’t need to be fixed so it molds to what we want. God’s word is written for us to follow, for us to strive to be like Him, not the other way around.

We need to get back to the simple things, I’ve been saying this a lot lately. Look at the items I’ve mentioned, built strong and lasting for decades. God’s word has been here for centuries and has served us very well, should we choose to take care and nurture it. Father has given us what we need to make it through this life, let’s make sure we take care of it.

Have a great day my friends 🙂 .

2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
