Some friends of ours have been on a trip over the last few weeks. They’ve been sending pictures back from the various destinations and we’ve been sharing their journey through these wonderful photos. Sunsets over the English Channel, gorgeous flowers in Kinsale Ireland, the Highlands of Scotland, and of course Loch Ness just to name a few of the photo memories shared with us so far.
Yesterday though my friend shared a picture from outside Stirling Castle in Scotland. What struck me was not only the beauty of this regal place but her comment that the roses in the garden were descendants from the 1500s. From the what? The 1500s! Now those are some serious genes!
Last night my husband and I went for an early anniversary celebration dinner. When I made the reservation they asked if there was a special occasion we were celebrating and I shared it was an anniversary. When we arrived, the hosts (multiple smiling people), welcomed us and confirmed we were celebrating our anniversary. They showed us to our table with beautiful red roses in a vase and petals on the table. How beautiful. After being there for a bit, I realized that they had a system for noting the occasion of the party dining. Petals on the table, anniversary, silver confetti flakes along with roses, birthday, you get the idea. Anyway, as I took in the beautiful roses around the place I showed my husband the picture from earlier in the day and the roses from the 1500s. He too was having a wow moment with these descendants.
This morning as I sat down to write this little blog I thought about how Father brought roses into the day yesterday. He showed me how, if we take care of this wonderful gift he provided to us, this place we call home, will last. The care given to those beautiful roses in, let’s face it, a pretty rough climate at times, the wonderful care has them still going strong.
Every day I’m seeing God’s gifts differently. Simpler gifts that He has given to us, that again if we take the time and the effort to care for them, they will last. He truly has provided for us from the beginning.
I guess just had some random thoughts this morning friends. But are they? Give some thought to what you see around you, the beauty, the simplicity of God’s incredible gifts, that cost us nothing. Enjoy those gifts and stop to give Him thanks for them.
Have a wonderful day my friends!
James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
