This morning as I sat on the lanai having my morning chat with Father I prayed He would calm the sea that was about to be angry. Hurricane Idalia is making her way up past Cuba and will soon be picking up speed and intensity. I thought of the story of Jesus in the boat with the disciples, when Jesus was sleeping and a storm came upon them. The waves were raging and they were scared. They woke Jesus who simply asked “Why are you afraid, O ye of little faith?”, and then calmed the seas and wind.
It was interesting as I looked out at the horizon. On one side I could see stars still in the sky, and on the other, I could see lightning. The wind has picked up just a little as we begin to see the very outskirts of Idalia. It was still so peaceful though, very calm. If you didn’t know what was coming you’d think it was just another beautiful day in paradise here π . Actually, though I think this was Father showing me yet again that He is here. He is in our midst and will be here through whatever we face.
It helps to have these moments of calm and intimate connection with Father. They strengthen us for the difficult times, and they solidify our relationship in knowing that He will help us through things like Idalia. Continue to prepare Florida friends, make sure you have those last-minute supplies and have gone through your storm prep checklist. Add a checkbox to that list that includes, talking with Father asking him to take your fears and anxiety, and leaving you with the calm that His love brings.
We will together overcome whatever Idalia brings. With God’s help, we will be strong, and if rebuilding is what is needed, we’ll do that too. God’s children are resilient and “If God is for us, who can be against us?”.
Be safe my Florida friends. Father is with us, He will never forsake us. Together, We Got This!
James 1:12
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
