I’ve noticed over the past week or so, everyone is starting to dig the fall decorations out, (even though the season doesn’t officially start until later this week). The pumpkins and fall leaves, acorns, gourds, and the Indian corn are starting to appear on doorsteps, and around homes, it’s quite festive. Even though you all know that my heart is squarely in summertime, I must admit I do love to see the change when fall comes.
Along with the seasonal change comes the change in the types of foods we see on the table as well. Now here in SW Florida we can pretty much grill every day, but I do love to dig into my cookbook and make a good ole’ comfort food recipe. I did just that last night. My husband has had a touch of a cold and it just seemed like the perfect time to spend a little time in the kitchen with a fall recipe.
There is just something about making things from scratch. As I chopped and sauteed, seasoned, and stirred, I found myself playing memories back in my head. When our kids were younger I spent loads of time in the kitchen and would try new recipes regularly. I realized last night how much I miss spending time in the kitchen cooking. It’s a simple pleasure that like many things in our lives, takes a back seat when things get hectic.
I’ve been sharing recently how I just feel we need to get back to some basics in this life. I think cooking, and making comfort foods is another way to do just that. Even better, what happens when we, share those comfort creations, along with Father’s love, with others… So many wonderful things happen when we share a meal together.
So, I’m giving thought to a little schedule of making things for others. Our neighbors may be seeing more of me soon 🙂 . I get back in the kitchen and share a little bit of Father’s love in the delivery. I’ll let you know how it goes friends, and hey, if you are up for it, think about doing something similar where you are. Oh and by the way, dinner last night, homemade chicken pot pie, it hit the spot 🙂 .
Have a great day my friends!
