Sitting in the Rain

It’s the rainy season here in SW Florida. Well, I should say, it’s supposed to be the rainy season here. You see it has been anything but this season, we’ve had a noticeable lack of rain. Our poor ponds and lakes are showing signs of the lack of water. The grass as well is starting to show it. So, as you can imagine when we get rain these days we are extremely thankful. Now I can do without the hurricanes that might come along with that rain, and with a little continued assistance from Father, we’ll make it through November unscathed in that regard. Anyway, yesterday afternoon we finally got some decent rain. I mean good old-fashioned thunderstorm rain. You could almost hear the grass and the foliage gulping as fast as it came down πŸ™‚ .

I found myself just staring out at the rain at one point. I wandered out onto my lanai and sat down and again just sat watching the rain and being thankful that it had actually come. The little lake, (pond) outside our building was starting to show just a little bit of refilling. There were actually some birds just sitting letting the rain come down on them. Everything around me was enjoying this natural shower. I just felt a sense of calm, felt like Father was washing everything clean and filling empty tanks.

It’s funny how the rain does that. After a nice long rain things just feel cleaner. The sky is a brighter blue, the grass is greener, and flowers and new growth appear. As I stepped out onto the lanai this morning, I noticed the temperature is cooler, the lake is like glass, and the air feels less heavy. Again, a nice cleaning and refresh after the rain.

While I sat last night watching that rainstorm I could also feel the craziness of the day wash away. I got lost in the time of just watching the storm and let the stress, the to-do list, the whatever, I just let it go for a time. It was a weird calm, but I guess that is what Father felt I needed at that time, and I’m thankful for it. There was something therapeutic about that little bit of time πŸ™‚ .

So friends, I encourage you, the next time a rain storm is a happenin’ around you, take some time to sit and enjoy it. Let that rain wash away the challenges, worries, stress, the whatever, let it be washed away for a time. Talk with God, share your fears or your excitement, and just enjoy the gift of the rain He provides.

Have a great day my friends πŸ™‚ .

Leviticus 26:4
Then I will give you your rains in their season, and the land shall yield its increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.
