It’s that time of the year when gardens are emptying for the season and the final canning, pickling, freezing is a happenin’. Well, it’s a different kind of canning here. Last year I mentioned that we have a small group of ladies at our church who put their hearts, (and a little muscle), into canning products for our annual Christmas Market. It’s hard to believe we’re just about six weeks away from our annual market, I know, I know, the stores have had Christmas decor up for a month already!
I love this little group of ladies that we’ve assembled, and I love how we’ve taken ideas from everyone to come up with this year’s “product list”. We’re trying some new things, and bringing back some items that actually go back to the beginnings of the market, namely “Carol’s Sour Cherry Preserves”. Our anchor product, the mango chutney will be displayed in all its glory, along with a new berry jam, the recipe comes from the grandson of one of our crew 🙂 . Tomorrow we’ll try our hand at port wine jelly and finish off a second batch of bourbon BBQ sauce.
I have to say, I’ve learned so much from this group, and not just about the canning process. We come from all walks of life, and are a variety of ages, but have so many things in common. Our love of Father and our love for helping others in the community through the efforts of the Christmas Market are the foundation of what we do. We’ll share stories, and catch up on the happenings of the summer, (several of our crew are just returning from their summer trips up north). We’ll make plans for the future weeks, and together we’ll continue to make a difference.
So friends, as we kick off fall this weekend, I hope you get the chance to spend time with friends, and hey maybe even try a new project like canning 🙂 . Whatever you have planned, just keep Father in the center and the rest will fall into place.
Have a great day everyone 🙂 .
