Eat the Cake

Seems like an odd title for this little blog given that just yesterday I was talking about working out again. Getting back into the gym and getting back on the wagon with the fitness journey, ya that goes along with eating cake right? The timing is interesting yes, however, God has a way of timing things ya know.

Yesterday I was talking with a friend, she had just been with a group for a meeting, and they had brought some goodies to celebrate her birthday early. One of the women in the group is an amazing baker and she had made homemade carrot cake along with some other snacks. Well you see, my friend has been on a 90 diet plan, and has done really well. She looks great and has lost over ten pounds. She said to me laughing, “What do you do when you are on a strict meal plan for the past two months and a group of ladies celebrates your birthday early with homemade carrot cake? What do you do when you’ve been living on protein and greens and homemade smoothies, and you’re committed to getting healthy, but you don’t want to be rude? What do you do?” She then declared boldly, “You eat the cake of course!”. She did have a piece of cake and admitted it was incredibly good. She also had a wonderful time celebrating.

As I thought about this conversation last night and then again this morning, I realized, it wasn’t about the cake. Well, the cake was amazing so there is that of course. However, this was about being humble and accepting the gifts that others want to share with you. Sometimes it’s difficult to do, we are presented with a gift or gifts and we don’t know how to respond. Sometimes we are embarrassed by the generosity or surprised that someone would care enough to give a gift.

The same holds true with compliments. Have you ever been complimented, told that you have done something well, or someone shared how nice you look, you find yourself unsure how to respond. I think that’s natural sometimes. We feel we don’t deserve the compliment or we don’t see ourselves the same way others do. Well, my friends, that is where Father steps in and says, “You are my child and you are beautiful and deserving of praise”, (my words here, but I think He feels this way).

So my friends, when others celebrate you, when others share a compliment, or present a gift, accept it with confidence that you are loved, and say Thank You. Don’t be surprised that others care, don’t be embarrassed that they take time to let you know they care, do be grateful and accept the gifts with grace.

Yes, when others bring the cake, eat a slice. Know that Father is in the midst of the giving of these gifts. He has provided opportunities for us to share the good with each other, for us to lift each other. Let’s embrace those opportunities and let’s take the time to pass them on to others. Share a compliment, lend a hand, or hey, bake a cake. Be a light in others’ lives, together we can make a difference.

Have a great day my friends πŸ™‚ .

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
