My husband and I have been married for almost 37 years, and when I take into account the dating before that, we’ve been together just about 40 years. Like most couples we’ve had our ups and downs, our “for better or worse” moments, we have two wonderful children and two amazing grandchildren. And…he is, in my humble opinion, the world’s best dad and “opa”.
Recently though I’ve realized just how close we’ve become. As we’ve grown through the ups and downs and for better and worse times we’ve come to know even more about each other. As we’ve gotten older and wiser I guess you could say, we’ve grown deeper in our relationship. Lots of times people refer to their spouses as their best friends. They should be of course, however, I do often wonder how true that is. Well, I can honestly say, that my husband is indeed my best friend and I’m both lucky to say that and blessed for it.
As our relationship has grown, our faith has also grown deeper. We have many conversations about Father, and over time those conversations have changed. Our faith was kind of personal for a long time, we didn’t talk much about it. Now it is the center of our relationship, Father is right in the center and that I truly believe is why my husband and I are so much closer. We share everything, our fears, our concerns, our joy, and our laughter.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that as our relationship with God has grown deeper, so has our relationship with each other. Father is in the midst of us all. He opens doors into hearts and He helps us to see how we can help each other.
Just some thoughts this morning friends as I’ve been reflecting over the past few days. Father is showing so much, He’s connecting many dots and I’m thankful to be one of His children, and thankful that He brought my husband into my life so many years ago.
I hope you take some time today to give thanks for your spouse, give them an extra hug, and say I love you. And…say the same thing to Father, He has brought you closer together 🙂 .
Genesis 2:24
Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
