Lately, I’ve been thinking about my Father-in-Law. He passed away many years ago having battled Alzheimer’s for many, many years. The anniversary of his death is coming up in a few days and maybe that’s why he’s been on my mind. We also spent some time with family last weekend and to say his genes run deep would be an understatement. Many of his sons bear incredible resemblances to this tender-hearted man π .
I think the other reason I’ve been thinking about him is I’ve in several situations just this week where individuals with dementia have been in the center. One of the women who works at our church is tag teaming with siblings to take care of her elderly mother suffering from dementia. She told me just the other day that it just makes her sad to see her mom slipping away. Yesterday I was talking with a gentleman from a company we are looking to hire and he too mentioned that he and his siblings are taking care of a mother suffering from dementia. And…this week a local woman here in Naples, 81 years old, suffering from dementia, has wandered off and gone missing π¦ . Our Marco Patriots helped in the search yesterday and are helping also to bring awareness to this disease.
I remember as my father-in-law progressed, of course, his memory faded. Gone were the current memories, but oh how we loved to listen to him talk about those times long ago when he was dating my mother-in-law. Even though his memory had faded, you could clearly see the love he had for her was still solid. It kept them both going for a very long time π .
This morning friends, I just ask that you join me in lifting prayers for all those who are suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia and their family and care givers. Let us remember those who cannot any longer. Thank you, my friends π .
Jeremiah 17:14
Heal me, OΒ Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for you are my praise.
