Last night after dinner I took the opportunity to order our annual Christmas wreaths. You see we’ve been supporting Wreaths Across America for over 15 years. The organization has a wonderful history, and its mission is simple, each Christmas season they strive to ensure every veteran’s grave has a wreath placed on it. As their support has grown more and more graves are covered each year 🙂 .
There are many ways to support their organization, simply sponsoring a wreath to be sent to a cemetery of your choice, or you can purchase wreaths to be delivered to you. This year we did both. We’ll place a wreath on my dad’s grave, and we bought wreaths to give as gifts and to hang on our door as well. It’s a wonderful tradition for a wonderful mission and I so appreciate what this organization does.
Interestingly this morning, I saw an ad for a Christmas shirt. They are filling social media these days. Anyway, it totally caught my attention. It was a white sweatshirt that had a Christmas wreath in the center. Well, actually picture this, the wreath was split in half, the left side a standard green wreath, the right side a crown of thorns. The caption simply said, “The Season” over the left side, and “The Reason” over the right side, (take a look at the image below). Ok, that one made me stop and think, “So true”.
I’m struck this morning how within the span of about six hours two clear messages were sent to me via the Christmas wreath. How this simple symbol can mean so much to so many. I’m pretty sure that Father was in the middle of this message, helping to remind me that He sent His son for a specific purpose. He sent His son to literally die for us. At the same time, He reminded me how many men and women were, and still are willing to die for the freedoms of this country.
This morning I thank you Father for the gift of your Son, may I never take that gift for granted. I give thanks as well for the men and women who are willing to give their lives for our freedoms, may Father protect them each and every day.
Friends, take a moment to remember the sacrifice. We can never repay the debts, but we can give thanks and pray for those who still put their lives on the line.
John 15:13
Greater love has no one than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
