Unexpected Lights

My husband and I had dinner with some friends last night and by the time we got home it was almost dark. Not surprising given the change of the seasons now, of course, that will be even more so after this weekend, but that discussion is for another little blog post 🙂 .

Anyway, we came inside and had to turn on the lights. As I looked out across the pond outside our patio, I could see that the fountain was also lit up, which always makes me smile. The fountain at night is beautiful. What really caught my attention though was the condo across the pond. On their patio was a very tall Christmas tree, totally lit up with white lights. There was no mistaking the tree that’s for sure. I smiled almost instantly and realized how good I felt inside seeing that tree.

Now, don’t misunderstand, I’m someone who does not like that we totally skip over Thanksgiving in most retail outlets. We rush to Christmas in July. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays and I think it should be given the respect it deserves, being thankful for all the gifts we have.

Last night though, when I saw that Christmas tree all lit up, (and will continue to see it now every evening until December 26th), I realized maybe this was Father just sending another little reminder, “Yep, Me again, still here”. Ok, He probably didn’t say it like that, but you know what I mean.

When I went out to have my evening chat with Father a little later, I just stared at that tree, again feeling good inside. I thought about how people tend to treat others differently during the Christmas season, nicer, more polite, and more caring. I thought about how everything just feels better, there is hope for better things to come. I even thought about that first Christmas when they had such hope, a Savior born to them that night. Yes, I felt good and was excited for Christmas, more than I usually am. I thanked Father for the reminder of Him being with us as He always is. I thanked him for the reminder that the way we treat each other at Christmas, well, ya, we should be doing that all year.

So my friends, on this day, let’s treat each other as if it were the Christmas season. Smile a little more, say thank you, and wish someone a good day. Have a great day my friends and thank you as always for being here each day to support this little blog 🙂 .

John 1:14
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
