A few weeks ago I saw an ad for a concert at the local Casino. The ad featured a familiar album cover. Oh, the memories the picture brought back and I instantly started playing some of the songs in my head. It didn’t take long for me to yell to my husband, “We have to get tickets, Christopher Cross is coming to town”. I love his music and I was always surprised that he didn’t become more popular. I’m looking forward to this evening and hearing some of what I call the oldies but goodies!
I was thinking about those oldies this morning as I sat down to write this little blog. I’ve mentioned a few situations where I’ve encountered the oldies recently. I mentioned our church mouse sale where I found some old glasses and a bowl reminding me of my in-laws. Yesterday a woman came to pick up an antique desk that was left to the church by her uncle who recently passed away. Inside that beautiful desk were some amazing old papers, dating back to the 1920’s. As I think about these “old” things, I think of the tradition, the history that I feel is slipping away.
There is so much to be learned by those who came before us, the greatest generation and before. Our ancestors, boy they were a strong lot, weren’t they? The challenges they endured, they met them head on and overcame. They worked together to build a nation with God at the heart of it. Sure, we’ve all been through some difficult times over the recent years, however, I would go so far as to say that what our ancestors endured to build this country, ya it was truly difficult.
As I look back on the old times, as I encounter the reminders of those days, I give thanks to those who persevered. I give thanks to Father for guiding those who had a vision and had the strength to overcome the challenges they faced. Our nation isn’t perfect, and our world isn’t perfect, however, we can learn from the oldies. We can, together overcome the challenges we face. Together we can show the love that Father gives us.
And…one day may our great-grandchildren look back at these days and think of them as oldies but goodies.
Have a great day my friends, I’m off to listen to some Christopher Cross to get prepped for tonight! Hey, if you encounter one of our seniors today, give them a word of thanks for how they helped shape this country π .

So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter.
