Trimming and Memories

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. It was nice to have a little downtime and not have an actual schedule to follow, (outside of Thanksgiving morning that is). I can’t believe we’ve finished Thanksgiving and are already looking at Christmas in a few weeks.

My husband and I were looking at the December calendar and like just about everyone else, ours is full. So, we opted to start our decorating a week earlier than usual. Normally, we would haul everything over from our storage unit, probably four trips worth, then unload each tub and place things around the house. Then, last but not least, we’d decorate the tree.

Well, this year we’re taking a bit of time, and, the tree actually went up first. As we decorated it yesterday afternoon, I found myself really looking at each ornament. The memories of each one, where we got it, which child had made it, (yes we still have some of our kid’s homemade ornaments and decorations), filled my head as I placed them on the tree. When we were done, I couldn’t help but just sit and look at that tree again thinking of all the memories and the love that went into the decor on the tree.

As we unloaded a few more tubs and began placing things around the house, I realized I couldn’t quite remember where we had things last year. I checked my pictures and realized I had only taken a few and the pictures I had were not of the items I was currently setting out. Oh well, things will look a little different this year I guess. I know some people have a system, they place the tree or trees in just the same spot, ornaments even go in certain places on the tree, and the other decorations in certain little areas. Well, I have some of that too, but for the most part, each year our house looks a little different, each year it’s just as special, and each year the memories of those decorations make me smile. The love that I feel when I set out those ornaments that our kids made, I just can’t explain it. They can’t believe we kept them, one day they will realize how precious they are.

Decorating for Christmas, hmmm, kind of like our relationship with Father in a way. Right about now you are thinking, “What the heck are you talking about”. Well, each year our relationship with Father is a little different, we get a little closer, and we reflect on the memories of the times we are truly close to Him, and the love He has for us, well it simply can’t be explained.

We still have decorating to finish, and several more tubs to unpack, and I look forward to the continued memories that will flow as each item comes out. If you are still in the Christmas decorating stage, or even if you are ahead of the game and have your digs decked out, may you enjoy the memories that this season stirs. Take some time to just sit and enjoy, and thank Father for the gifts of the season, especially the most important gift of all, the gift of the Baby Jesus.

Have a great day friends 🙂 .
