Many years ago, I don’t even remember what year it started, let’s just say that long ago, while we were Christmas shopping, we saw this cute Santa among the decor displays. My husband commented on how peaceful his eyes were. We bought that Santa those many years ago, little did I know at the time that this would be the start of a “collection”.
Since purchasing that first Santa, each year we add one, or more to the collection. We have a big burly Santa with skis on his back, a Scottish Santa sporting bagpipes and a kilt, a patriotic Santa decked in red, white, and blue, or one of my favorite Santa in his fuzzy slippers, pajamas, and robe holding the cup of hot cocoa. There are many others, and each carries a memory of when we got it. When we pull them out of the boxes each year, you’ll hear either me or my husband say, “Oh I remember this guy, or Oh, he’s my favorite”.
The last few days on social media I’ve enjoyed watching the collections of Christmas items that others are sharing. A friend has a collection of ceramic Christmas trees, they are stunning. Another friend displays her Christmas village and all of the shops and figurines that she says get added to each year.
As I sat down to write this little blog this morning, I was thinking about these beautiful, yet simple collections that bring such joy and so many memories to our lives. Father has blessed us with all kinds of collections, not just the material trinkets we have, but the collection of family and friends and the experiences we share.
As we begin Advent, enjoy some quiet time and give thanks for the collections you have. Have a great day my friends š .
