Emmanuel – God with Us

There are just some days when Father is front and center. Well, that is a pretty silly statement, isn’t it? He should be front and center every day. What I mean is, there are some days when He is just more present in the moments than other days. You can feel Him moving in the moments. Yesterday was one of those days, for me anyway.

Tuesday’s are our team meeting at work. We review the previous week, Sunday services, any major events, and then dig into the upcoming week and Sunday. First, though, we had to congratulate our Music Director who got engaged over the holiday. We’ve been giving him a hard time for months because he’s been dating his now fiance’ for a very long time. So it was fun to congratulate him on finally getting the task at hand completed 🙂 . Father at work in the midst of that joyous occasion. Throughout the meeting, there was just this lighthearted humor. Don’t get me wrong we got many things accomplished, and are set for the upcoming week. What I noticed though was how happy everyone was. We joked, and shared laughs, brainstormed some new ideas, and had productive discussions, it was just a nice time and you could feel things “click” if that makes sense. Again, Father was in our midst in a big way.

Later in the afternoon, we welcomed many of our recent newcomers, (new parishioners) to join us on a sunset cruise. It was an opportunity to share the history of our church, discuss our outreach to the community, and inform them about our educational and youth programs, you get the idea. As people began to arrive I made my way to the dock to chat with many I had not met before. I heard stories about where they had come from, one woman moved here from England many years ago. It was interesting to talk with her about the church where she had grown up. The weather was chilly, (for us anyway), and everyone was bundled up in coats, sweaters, and scarves. Even though the air had a nip, there was warm apple cider and warm hearts everywhere. Again, Father in the middle of this little gathering.

I’m not sure why I felt His presence so much yesterday. Maybe because we are preparing for Advent and Christmas. Maybe I wanted to see Him more. Maybe, I’m just more in tune with my relationship with Father. All I know is, it felt good to experience Emmanuel – God with us.

Friends, I hope you have an opportunity today to experience God in your midst. I hope He fills your day with His presence and His love. It truly makes for a better day. Have an awesome day everyone, oh and stay warm out there 🙂 .

Matthew 1:23
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).
