Yep, we are just one week away from Christmas. As we all scramble to get those last things checked off the list, the last minutes gifts, the baking, Christmas cards, and parties, I hope we can find a moment to just be. I’m just as guilty as others, getting so wrapped up in the traditions and the stress of buying and giving of gifts that I forget the why – why are we celebrating this time of year.
I’ve started to think that it would be interesting to just say, no gifts this year. Or only a gift that comes from the heart, hand made, handwritten, something along those lines. What if you couldn’t give a gift that was just bought off the shelf? What if you could only give a gift made with love? You know kind of like the gift that Father gave of His only Son. Totally made with love.
Yes, perhaps next year we’ll start a new tradition. Family members choose a name and then spend the rest of the time making one gift with love and from the heart. Hmmm, I like this idea. I would much rather spend my time into a little research and then making a gift, thinking about the person I’m making it for, and maybe even learning something new as I make it. We will see how this little idea takes hold.
For today though friends, as we are just one week from Christmas, I encourage you to take a moment today to say thank you to those around you. It’s so easy to be rushed this time of year, we often forget to say a little thanks, and that little word of thanks can make someone’s day.
Have a wonderful day, may it be filled with your favorite Christmas tune, and a reminder that Father gave us the greatest gift possible, the gift of true love through His only Son, the baby, the Christ Child.
Isaiah 9:6
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
