The Simpleness of the Season

Over the past few days, I’ve been mentioning in this little blog how I’ve been seeing and feeling the simple things about this Christmas. Yesterday I mentioned possibly starting a new tradition of just one gift and that one being homemade. I guess the simpleness of the season continued last night.

We were late getting out of work, (the year is coming to an end and we are learning all kinds of new things), so we just stopped at our little neighborhood restaurant for dinner on the way home. When we got home I wanted to wrap a few gifts that still need to make their way through the UPS system, (yes according to their site I still have time).

My husband and I changed, into sweatshirts and jeans, yes even here it’s cool. I pulled out the wrapping paper and ribbon tubs and grabbed the few items I wanted to wrap. Well, you know how that went. I started looking at things, and before you knew it, I had several other items sitting next to me to wrap. I asked my husband to jump in and before you knew it, presto-chango gifts were being wrapped and transformed into “packages”.

When it came time to put on bows or ribbons, I realized we were out of a few things. If you’re like me you only look in that wrapping paper tub at Christmas 🙂 . Well, no worries, we have plenty of decorative strings and ribbons. I made about just tying simple bows with string on many packages. I also didn’t have name tags, well only a few, so I found myself writing names on gift bags, or folding a piece of wrapping paper in half and making it into a tag, (just like my mom used to do back in the day).

What I realized was the gifts we wrapped last night, they are simple. No elegant paper with elaborate decoration on the outside. Many packages have simple craft paper with Merry Christmas on them, tied with a string. You know what, they are simple, and beautiful because of the love that went into making them that way. Yes, I think we’ll continue to just enjoy wrapping the gifts we have remaining with the paper and ribbon we have, and enjoy the simpleness of the season.

As I sat down to write this little blog this morning and looked at those packages, I thought about the baby Jesus. The simpleness of his birth, in a manger, with the livestock and the angels, lying on a bed of soft hay. Yes my friends, the simpleness of the season, it’s a strong reminder of the greatest gift ever given, the Christ Child.

Have a great day my friends 🙂 .

Luke 2:10
And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people”.

  1. Many people (not me, can’t stick with it) only give each child 3 gifts for Christmas. Same number the Christ child received.
