Stop and…

There are many ways to finish the title of this little blog this morning. We’ve all heard them, stop and smell the roses, stop and take it all in, stop and listen. You get the idea and I’m sure you’ve heard them all.

Well, last night on the way home from work I had one of those moments. You see, my husband and I had driven separately yesterday. He left a little before I did. I was wrapping up an email and by the time I left, I looked at the clock wondering if the sun had yet set. I made my way outside and could tell I still had a few minutes.

Down the street, I went and made a familiar turn onto one of the streets headed to the beach. It’s one of our favorite places to watch the sunset. When I got to the end where parking was, all the spaces were taken, (go figure). One of the homes that was damaged by Hurricane Ian is being remodeled and they had ropes across their driveway by the construction crews. I parked in front and jumped out of the car and stepped up onto the dune nearby. What I saw next actually took my breath away.

When I first got there I thought I had missed the sunset. However, when I got to where I could see the water, I realized it was just kissing the water behind some clouds and the colors were just stunning. It was windy so the waves were pretty loud. Between the sound of the ocean and the incredible sky, there was an instant relaxation that hit me. Then I heard it, I heard Father say, “Stop and watch the sunset more”. I get it, I thought to myself.

Why in the world, when you live so close to such beauty do I not see it more often. Heck, I drive by it literally twice a day when I go to and from work.

I think each of us has an opportunity to stop and…go ahead, fill in the blank. Whether it’s spending more time with family, enjoying Father’s creation, smelling those roses, or stopping and praying, we all need to make the time.

The new year is upon us, and with that, the chance to make changes in our lives. So friends, what will those changes be? For me, one of them is to stop and watch the sunset more. Oh, and the cover of today’s little blog is that beautiful sunset I saw last night 🙂 .

As you begin your day, give some thought to what you might be able stop and do more of this year. Have a great day!

Isaiah 40:28
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.
