Happy Place

Yesterday on social media I saw pictures of friends who were in their “happy place”. You know what I mean, the places they go where they feel total peace and happiness. I saw pictures of people at the beach, skiing in the mountains, hiking trails in the woods, and yes, even on the golf course. These are the places where people feel something inside them that makes them happy. Yes, I confess, that is totally the beach for me, and if you can toss in a fishing pole well that’s even better.

As I thought about these pictures this morning and thought about these physical places that are so special to us, I wondered what makes us feel this way. Why is it we have these special places where we are the happiest? Why is it we don’t feel that way where we live our day-to-day lives? Is it just that we’re taken away from the craziness of our daily lives for a bit, or is it actually the physical place that makes us feel this way, or hey is it both? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying we’re wrong for having these special places that make us so happy, I just find it curious that we don’t have those same feelings where we live each day.

For me, the physical place of the beach is what does it. I love to hear the ocean water, I love the smell of the sea and the sand beneath my feet. For others I guess being out in the fresh mountain air clears the mind, being on a golf course puts you at one with a focused game. Then there is the obvious, for many or maybe most, when we are in those happy places we feel closer to Father. I know I do. When I see a sunset on a beach, I truly see the hand of God painting the sky. I guess this is true of everyone’s happy place, they feel God and see Him at work.

I think there is an opportunity to bring those happy places, or at least the feeling of being there, we have the opportunity to bring that into our day-to-day life. I say it all the time here, Father is always with us. In many cases, we can simply look up to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset. I’ve seen some of the best from a parking lot 🙂 . Side note, thanks to my friend Dana for the beautiful sunset pic from the beach last night! When you have those feelings within your day, stop and take a moment to thank Father. I think the more we can do that, the more our eyes will be opened to the beauty that is around us each and every day.

Wherever your happy place is, I hope you continue to spend time there, and I hope you can bring a little piece of that back with you. Let’s start making more places our happy place, including the ones we live in most of the time.

Have a great day my friends, where you are, make it a happy place today 🙂 .
