Little Organizations

Last night I had a meeting with a combined group of people doing some really great stuff for our community. You see each year we have a fundraiser at our church to raise funds for community outreach. We have a group who plans the fundraiser, and then there is a grant committee who researches the many local charitable organizations in our county, to make a plan to help. Each year the grant committee focuses on specific needs and this year the focus is physical health and development.

Last night we brought these two committees together to get to know each other and learn more about how their efforts are making such a difference. My favorite part of the meeting was learning more about some of the local organizations that will be receiving grants this year. Three organizations in particular caught my attention because they are very small, like 2-8 people making them tick.

I heard about an organization with only 2-3 people who collect food from our local grocery stores and supply it to four small local schools. They then make meal pouches for some of the children to take home to their families. They learn about the family needs from the children in the school. The children tell the teachers that they are eating at school, however, “My mom is hungry, she has no food at home”. This organization feeds those families and does it all with just a few people.

Another organization tugged at my heartstrings because my grandson used a similar group back home. It’s a therapeutic riding stable, where physically and mentally challenged individuals can come and learn how to ride and be around horses. Again, a very small organization just providing an opportunity for those who wouldn’t normally ride, to experience the joy of being on a horse. Ya, my grandson loved it 🙂 .

The last group is a small organization that provides swimming lessons at no charge for children of families who cannot afford to pay for them. Drowning is the number one cause of death of children in the state of Florida. This organization teaches kids who might never have the opportunity, how to swim and be safe around water.

I was humbled by what I heard last night. Father at work in so many ways. God’s children making a huge difference in the lives of others, in just little common sense ways. Feed the hungry, share the love of God’s creatures, teach a child to swim, very simple things. Little organizations with just a few people making it all come together, yes, I was humbled by all they are doing.

Friends, Father is so at work in this world, we are seeing it every day. Take some time to understand the many little groups that are at work in your community. I think you’ll be humbled to see how much good is happening around us, even though the news may say otherwise.

Have an awesome day my friends, take a moment to share a smile with someone today, you never know the difference it can make 🙂 .

Oh, and huge thanks to my friend and awesome photographer Joey Waves for the header picture of today’s little blog 🙂 .
