Yesterday my husband and I went to the office. Well, let me rephrase that, he went into the office and worked, I on the other hand sat out on the dock behind the church with a fishing pole in my hand 🙂 . One of the benefits of working at our church is the location. As I’ve mentioned before it sits on a cove with a beautiful view of the water, and of course it’s a great place for fishing, especially during the season when our little town is filled with visitors. The weather yesterday was really nice, (something we haven’t had for weeks), so I could tell that the beach was packed, and not a good time to try and fish there.
Anyway, it was nice to relax for a bit, enjoy a little sunshine, and just ponder things. Although I have to admit, when I got home I started assessing all of the things I probably “should have” been doing. I started to feel guilty for not staying home and taking care of other things on my to-do list. Why do we do that to ourselves? Why do we feel guilty for taking a couple of hours to just rest our bodies and our brains? Even Father rested on the 7th day 🙂 .
These bodies of ours need to get a little downtime. When we don’t have a little relaxation or rest then we get run down, stressed, and all the other things that go along with that. I know, I’m not telling you all anything you don’t already know, just a friendly reminder. We need to be ok with taking the downtime, we need to be ok with just stepping away from the day-to-day busyness and relaxing. Plus, we need to take some time to enjoy Father’s creation. The world around us is a pretty amazing place and we’re blessed to have it.
So friends, make a point to put some downtime in your schedule. Even if you just read a book, take a little nap, work on your favorite hobby, whatever it is, relax a tad. Our bodies and our brains need a break. Oh, and don’t feel guilty about it 🙂 .
Have a great day friends 🙂 .
p.s. Thanks to my friend Beth Ageros for the beautiful sunset picture in today’s header.
Exodus 34:21
Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest. In plowing time and in harvest you shall rest.
