We have several antique pieces of furniture in our home. These pieces belonged to my in-laws, and actually perhaps even their parents. We are having one of the pieces restored, actually dropping it off today with a man passionate about restoring pieces to their original beauty. Our goal is to make our way through all four of the pieces we have, and we need to start somewhere.
This first piece is a beautiful secretary-type desk. It was my mother-in-laws, and my husband shares many stories about how she used it. The desk, made of not quite sure which kind of wood, has a beautiful leather inset top with gold leaf around the edges. Over the years, and many children later, the desk has worn, the leather pulling up from corners, and scratches and stains are noticeable. However, the structure of this desk is so solid. The man restoring it even commented on that. Through many moves, it still stands square, and even in its worn state, you can tell it’s a thing of beauty. I can’t wait to see how it looks when we get it back.
This morning as I was sitting on the lanai for my morning chat with Father I was thinking about the day ahead and remembered we had to drop off the desk. This led me to think about restoring the piece to its natural beauty. Of course, that took me down the path of us, God’s children being restored by His love and strength. It’s a pretty easy correlation don’t you think? We get worn down, and experience scratches and dents as we make our way through this life. We don’t look or feel like we used to. It’s at those times when we need to look for restoration from Father. He is here to buff out the scratches, repair the dents, or in other words, heal our hearts and minds, and even do miracle healing when we think things are lost. The Bible is filled with stories of healing and restoration. My goodness just look at what Job went through. Talk about a man of faith, and the restoration Father performed, giving him twice as much as he had before 🙂 .
Yes, my friends, it’s easy to feel alone, worn out, and neglected, just like our desk over the years. However, there is hope in Father, there is restoration when we lean into Him during those times. He will give us the strength we need through whatever comes our way if we trust in Him. Ask Him to help heal the wounds, the scratches, and dents so to speak. Before we know it, that original beauty we all have comes shining through again.
Have a great day my friends, I’ll share before and after pictures of our special desk when we get it back. Until then, just remember that Father is always with us, and His restorations, ya they are what matter the most 🙂 .
1 Peter 5:10
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
